Tell Congress To Support the "Polluter Pays" Law
Tell Congress To Support the "Polluter Pays" Law Please take a moment to ask your U.S. Representative to help protect public health and make polluters, not taxpayers, pay to clean up Superfund toxic waste sites. Send them an e-mail asking for their support for H.R. 1887, a bill that would reauthorize Superfund’s polluter fees. Petition Text: Dear Member of Congress,
I am writing to ask that you support efforts to protect public health by increasing funding for the federal Superfund toxic waste cleanup program. Since the polluter pays fees expired in 1995, funding levels for Superfund cleanups have declined by $400 million, while the annual financial burden on American taxpayers has increased by 427%.
The Superfund must be returned to financial stability and polluters, not taxpayers, should pay to clean up toxic sites. For these reasons, I am writing to ask that you cosponsor H.R. 1887, a bill that would reauthorize Superfund’s polluter fees.
