Growing support around the country for public transportation and high-speed rail has convinced some in Congress to get behind a set of changes that would help to reduce the amount that Americans have to drive.
Led by our federal transportation advocate, John Krieger, TexPIRG has organized a coalition of more than 150 organizations at the local, state and national levels to call on Congress to adopt legislation that would rethink transportation choices made in the United States.
In August, The New York Times’ editorial board made the same point, calling on Congress and President Obama to help the United States catch up to many other countries by establishing more high-speed rail lines, writing that “both have an obligation to make a down payment on high-speed-rail corridors across the nation.”
