Dear TexPIRG member,
Transportation will be high on the agenda this year in Texas, and it couldn’t come at a more important time.
After decades of emphasizing more roads, transportation planners are finally considering new rail networks for our cities. This fall, a new commuter rail line linking Leander to Austin will open. And voters may get the opportunity to approve an ultra-light-rail system for central Austin during the November elections.
Houston’s light-rail system is expanding, and civic leaders in the Dallas-Fort Worth region are pushing for new funding to expand transit options like the DART. There’s also a major effort afoot to create a high-speed rail network dubbed the “Texas T-Bone” to link our cities.
These projects will be critical to easing congestion on our roadways, reducing air pollution and improving the quality of life in our cities.
As you can imagine, winning these new rail systems won’t be easy. But with your support, we can work to create a new direction for Texas’ transportation future.
Thanks again for your support.
Sincerely,
Joe Rupp
